Vintage handcrafted astrolabe pendant; fully functional. Truly exceptional as it is square in form. Collected in the south of Morocco near the Sahara. It measures 6.5 cm. tall by 5.5 cm. wide. 5 different plates to work with. The astrolabe is an instrument used to make astronomical measurements, typically of the altitudes of celestial bodies, and in navigation for calculating latitude, before the development of the sextant.
